Poni receives the ISO 9001:2015 certification from Bureau Veritas Brunei for the provision of services related to Recreational & Occupational Diving, making its recreational diving division, Poni Divers, the first recreational diving center in the region to receive this prestigious certification. In Brunei, there are more than 50 companies with ISO 9001, with a majority in the oil and gas industry or bidding for large government contracts, where the certification is mandatory.
Poni achieved the certification in January 2020 through Darussalam Enterprise’s (DARe) Standards Consultancy Programme (SCP).
Anna Aziz, Business Development Director, said “Undergoing the certification process has propelled the company to streamline and develop an overall framework for their business operations and processes to better meet and proactively anticipate customer’s needs through increased documentation and planning their day to day operations.
Poni Divers is Brunei’s largest diving & watersports centre. Poni Divers, along with its other wholly-owned subsidiaries, Poni Marine & Poni Adventures have also just been incorporated under Poni Group Sdn Bhd, its parent company, Feb 2020; a great milestone for the company as it looks forward in 2020.
“Since our establishment in 2009, we have grown from strength to strength and diversified into different sectors: Commercial Diving & Marine Engineering; Boat Charters, Rentals and Boat Maintenance; Event Management, Corporate Teambuilding and Watersports. Our growth strategy is to diversify and leverage Poni Group’s core strengths whilst creating synergies with existing assets and capitalizing on experience and skills we have developed. Industry certification and recognition is crucial for Poni Group as we continuously deliver and improve the business trajectory ,” said Poni Group CEO & Founder, Wong Thye Sing.
ISO 9001 is a standard that sets out the criteria for a quality management system and reflects an organization’s ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. With over one million organizations from 170 countries certified, ISO 9001 is considered one of the most fundamental quality management system standards. The ISO 9001 can be used by any company, large or small and is arguably the most common form of quality standards available worldwide.
Wong added that Poni Group is also expanding beyond the aforementioned services and are looking to certify for ISO 14001, an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system, ISO 45001 for workplace safety, and also to achieve the in-water survey certification under Bureau Veritas. Poni was selected as one of the businesses that DARe selected for SCP offering fully-sponsored consultancy. Poni was audited by Bureau Veritas and consulted by Arete Solutions.
